Holi-day 2010
On June 2nd and 3rd , Holifield Farm Project, a Day Care Centre near the Helford River in Gweek, Helston held it’s ‘Holiday’ event. ‘Holiday’ is primarily a camping and activities event for people with special needs, and people camp overnight or drop in for the day to enjoy themselves. The farm, polytunnels, gardens and beautiful woodland walks were opened up for everyone to enjoy.
Lots of ‘trainees’, or people who come to the day care centre, came along and camped, and there were over 200 campers and visitors from all over Cornwall.
There was a marquee for workshops and activities, and another one that was a lovely cafe, both decorated with beautiful art work from the special needs project.
There were art and craft workshops including clay work, painting, model making, weaving, and wood carving. People could also enjoy face painting, parachute fun, music workshops, walkabout theatre, and a procession. In the evening there was a barn dance with local band ‘Jonah’s Lift’ who got everyone dancing. For those who wanted to stay up really late there was a big bonfire. There was an amazing exhibition of the trainees art and craft work in the tea room which was enjoyed by many, and sold well too.
The Holiday Cafe provided excellent wholesome food throughout the event.
One of our trainees, Tom says ‘I really enjoyed Holiday because I loved camping with my mates and I liked the music and dancing. I did ‘Riverdance’ dressed as a leprachaun.
This is the second time the event has been staged, and we look forward to having another next year.
