HOLIFIELD FARM PROJECT

NEWSLETTER Summer 2015

news coverHaving fun at Holifield Camping Weekend in June!

Dear Friends,
We hope you have all had as wonderful a summer as we have! It seems it is time to get the wellies & coats on, get collecting apples and watch the leaves change again – wow, that has gone quick!

New Ducks
We have some lovely ducks now at Holifield who live near the tea room in a new area with a pond. Everyone is enjoying feeding and looking after them and collecting their eggs. We have to be careful of one of them though because he chases us so we call him Scrappy-Doo! We are hoping to hatch out some ducklings in the future and also buy some more ducks of different types.ducks

Gweek Scarecrow Trail
Holifield took part in the Gweek Village scarecrow competition. The theme was ‘Alice in Wonderland.’ We made The Caterpillar and put it up by our gate. Everyone went around the village looking at all the scarecrows and voting for the ones they liked best. Our caterpillar won first prize.scarecrow comp

Huge thanks for a successful Holifield Camping Weekend!
A huge shout out goes out to all the lovely people who help to make the most gorgeous, non-profit Holifield Camping Weekend 2015 happen. The weekend was filled with happy faces and a feeling of inclusiveness & connection…this really is our favourite weekend!! What a really great team we have on board at Holifield Farm Project! Rob & Amy are the brains, main support & main sponsors behind this event – without them this event simply could not happen! To our day care centre manager, Wendy, for taking care of everyone & being such fun – we are so glad to have you as part of the team, to Kate, Lisa, Daisy, Dean who worked really hard and to all the stewards & volunteers who helped make this event happen!

A massive thank you to all the people who made very generous donations and bid on our online auction – we raised almost £500!!! This helps tremendously towards the running costs of this event!

A gigantic thank you too, to all who ran performances and workshops for reduced rates, or for free, and for all who made donations to this event. Acts included Miracle Theatres ‘The Hope Springs Due’, Shallal Dance Theatre company, Seef Saffah belly dancers, GOT group Cornwall – Got2Act of Sense Deafblind Charity, Get Changed Theatre Company, Jonah’s Lift and many more!

And last but not least to everyone who attended & got involved, for your happy smiley faces and your wonderful karaoke, dancing, artwork & help to make this possible! You are all amazing!!!

Autumn 2013 Newsletter

Dear Friends,
It is that glorious time of the year where the leaves have turned wonderful colours and are fast falling from the trees. It has been a good year, with lots happening, masses of produce and many memorable moments. Halloween was our most recent celebration and we all got dressed up, carved pumpkins and looked rather scary!

New Classroom & Office
Building is set to start within a few weeks, so it is going to be a busy winter. We are very excited to have our new building.
Our Project, Our Say
The trainees have meetings every 3 weeks. Trainees talk about what they want from the Project and things they want to change. Our next meeting will be on Monday the 25th of November at 1.45pm. Ideas to be discussed at the meeting can be put in the Ideas Box in the tea room, and anyone who is not in on that day can ask another trainee to present their points of discussion.
Christmas Holidays
We will be shut for the festive season from Tuesday the 24th of December and we’ll be back on Thursday the 2nd of January 2015.
Christmas Lunch
We are planning to have our Holifield Farm Project Christmas do on Tuesday the 17th of December. The venue & entertainment is not confirmed. We will let all trainees & staff know as soon as we have those details.
Yoga, Art, Music and Healthy Living workshops
Yoga is now on a Thursday morning – it is cosy with the new woodburner going and is enjoyed by a different group of trainees. Lisa’s art workshops continue on a Friday and are very popular. Cornwall College is running Healthy Living and Life Skills workshops on Tuesdays. We are on the hunt for a Music workshop leader – so music workshops should resume on a Wednesday soon.
Holifield Camping Weekend(previously known as Holi-Day)
Our much loved event for people with Learning Disabilities and Additional needs, their carers, friends and family has a new name: Holifield Camping Weekend. It is now going to be in July (4th-6th) instead of May, as the weather will be warmer for camping. We will be having a barndance, as well as lots of other entertainment. Weekend tickets (including camping) are £20 per person, under 5’s are free. Keep an eye on our website of facebook page for more details. Tickets will be available online soon.

New Website
We are proud to announce that we have a new website up and running. There are lots of lovely photos on it, and a bit more information, so do take a look and we are more than happy to receive any comments or constructive critiscm. www.holifieldfarmproject.co.uk

Wishing you all a fun and relaxing festive season, with best wishes from us all.

Newsletter Summer 2013

Dear Friends,

We hope you have all been enjoying the fantastic summer we’ve had.

To celebrate our abundance of apples we will be hosting an Open Day with an apple theme and tea and cake on Thursday the 3rd of October from 11am to 3pm.  Let us know if you’d like some flyers to give out.

Growing things…

The polytunnels and garden are all looking great. The tomatoes, courgettes, runner beans and a different variety of aubergines are cropping like crazy, and everything is deliciously sunkissed. Do support our honesty box in Gweek.

New Classroom & Office

The plans for the new classroom are coming on. We have to submit plans to Building Control and then we can go ahead and start building. We are still looking for anyone interested in sponsoring it.

Holi-day Survey  If you have been to a Holi-Day event in the past 5 years, we would very much appreciate you doing the survey here so that we can ensure that you are getting what you would like to out of this event.

Food Processing Our new food processing room is looking great and will soon be put to good use soon for apple pressing, jam & chutney making and more.

Yoga, art and workshops

Yoga is being moved to a Thursday morning instead of a Monday morning. We all enjoy trying new shapes and playing yoga games. Lisa’s art workshops continue on a Friday and are very popular. Cornwall College will be running some other interesting workshops on Tuesdays – details to be confirmed. Music workshops will soon be resumed on a Wednesday.

Trainees photos

The Trainees have been taking some photos over the summer, you can see them on our facebook page here http://goo.gl/AW5pdV

Last but not least – Big Congratulations to our lovely staff member Suzy who has recently got married to Jo. Wishing them lots of happiness.

Enjoy this beautiful time of year, as the days draw in and the leaves begin to change colour.  We hope to see you at our open day on the 3rd of October!

Best wishes from us all
